A mother’s oeuvre

I have written

One hundred thousand poems

In my head

While my arms were full of sleeping child

And lost them again, before my hands could hold a pen.

Perhaps they’re out there still

Singing in the ether

Whispering the simple poetry

Of the soft round lines of your face

Pressed against my breast

As you dream.
